For designers Colour

We use our core ONS colour palette for our illustrations, along with a supporting colour palette. We have developed specific colour schemes for different themes to distinguish and identify the various topics that ONS covers. These colour schemes are used in both our digital and print products. You can find more information on our colour guidance page. (opens in a new tab)

In line with W3 guidance on colour contrast (opens in a new tab) , ONS illustrations should use accessible colour combinations where possible. Exceptions are where illustrations are purely decorative or are added as a supportive element to help inform and clarify information already explained within the content.
