Help users to Create an account
Overview
Help users to create an account when they need to access your service or are invited to take part in a survey.
This user journey is made up of a sequence of patterns, based on whether the user needs to enter an enrolment code or not.
When to use this pattern
Use this pattern when a user needs an account to:
- respond to a survey
- regularly access or update their data in your service
When not to use this pattern
Do not create user accounts if you can provide a usable service without them.
How to use this pattern
This journey uses the following components:
Variants
If a user has a survey access code
- Use the access codes pattern to ask for the user’s access code, or enrolment code, before requesting contact details.
- Display a details component on the page with further information on what the user should do if they have lost or not received their code.
- Ask the user to confirm if their stored details are correct or update them if not.
- Ask for a user’s first, middle (optional) and last names using the names pattern.
- Ask for user’s email address using the email address pattern.
- Ask for a user’s phone number using the phone number pattern.
- Use the passwords pattern to help a user to create a password.
- Send the user an account verification email through GovNotify to prompt them to finish setting up their account.
- Display either a success panel to confirm that their account has been activated, or a session timed out error page if their activation link expired before they could activate it.
If a survey access code is not required
If there is no access code, design the journey to begin the process from step 4.
