Logo

Overview

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) logo consists of our name and symbol and is one of the main tools for identifying our brand.

Warning:

Only use official versions of the logo. Our logo packs are available to download from our downloads section

We use the stacked logo wherever possible on our print and digital communications.

The Welsh translation is treated with equal distinction and sits neatly with the English counterpart when displayed in a bilingual format.

Further information on using our bilingual logo is available in our guidance for communicating with people in Wales.

The landscape logo includes our name in a single line. It is mainly for digital use, such as on our social media channels.

This logo can also be used in place of our stacked logo where vertical space is limited.

Black or white

We use a single colour black or white logo where the full colour logo is not appropriate, such as on a dark background.

Warning:

Always check the contrast between the background colour and the logo colour meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards by using the WebAim colour contrast checker (opens in a new tab)

Clear zone

The area around the logo should be kept clear, to avoid crowding and maintain readability.

The minimum clear zone is equivalent to the width and depth of the ONS symbol. No type or graphic element should intrude into this space.

Whenever possible leave more space around the logo than this.

The measure is always in proportion, so the clear zone will need to scale as you increase or decrease the size of the logo.

Logo positioning

The context and type of communication we are using will determine the position of the logo.

In most cases, our logo is positioned in the top left-hand corner for brand visibility and awareness.

Our alternative logo is positioned in a bottom corner to act as a sign-off, such as on our social media posts.

Important information:

When positioning the logo, always remember to factor in the clear zone

Size guides

The size of the logo should be consistent across all our outputs. You can check the sizing by measuring the width from the left to right of the complete logo.

If you are unsure about the sizing, email ons.design@ons.gov.uk  (opens in a new tab)

The bilingual versions of the logo use the same size as the Welsh counterpart.

This table shows our recommended logo sizes for print.

Important information:

The tri-fold leaflet, A6 to A0 and roller banner sizing has been calculated based on the product being displayed in portrait. You may need to adjust sizing to suit your document orientation and content.
