Suggest a change

Overview

Follow these steps if you want to suggest a change for the Design System.

A change may be:

  • an enhancement to an existing component or pattern

  • a bug you have found within the components, patterns or examples in the design system

  • a change to the Figma UI library or ONS Prototype Kit

  • updates to documentation or guidance

How to suggest a change

Check the backlog

Check if someone has already suggested the change:

If your idea has already been raised, you can comment on the issue and provide additional evidence that you need the change.

Raise an issue

If your idea has not already been raised, raise an enhancement or bug on the community backlog.

You will need to provide evidence to support the need for the change. This could be from user research, usability and accessibility testing, or research into best practice.

You should also provide prototypes and mocked-up examples to support your suggestion.

To let us know that you have raised an issue, contact us.

Next steps

The Design System team will review your suggested change and decide whether to make the change.

Once the change is ready to be worked on, it will be marked as “To do” in the community backlog on GitHub.

The team will then work with you to decide who should develop the change.
